Research Blood Components provides human blood and blood products to the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries and academic biomedical researchers throughout the United States. We do not collect blood for clinical use. Our only purpose is to meet the unique needs of the research community. We can provide custom ordered blood products for use in your research. You can make arrangements for customized collections based on your needs for donor populations, anticoagulants, and collection amounts. Research Blood Components follows the American Association of Blood Banks guidelines for drawing donors. Our regular population consists of healthy males and females between 18 and 65. All donors complete a uniform blood donor history questionnaire. An IRB approved consent form is obtained from each donor, giving us permission to collect their blood and use or sell it at our discretion for research purposes. Confidentiality and donor identification are assured, and you will receive only a Research Blood Components assigned tracking number for each blood collection service. Research Blood Components tests each donor's blood for standard blood-borne pathogens before the initial donation and at the time of each subsequent donation. Testing is performed by a laboratory licensed to screen blood donors for ABO/Rh, antibody screen, syphilis serology, anti-HIV I/II, anti-HTLV I/II, hepatitis B surface antigen, HCV antibody, and hepatitis B core antibody. Donors can be tested more frequently, if desired, for an additional charge. Despite negative results, all blood products should be considered potentially infectious and handled in a manner consistent with guidelines to prevent transmission of blood-borne pathogens.
